NEW OFFERING- Webinars:

Creating and Strengthening Girls' Sports Programs

Sports can engage youth in many ways.  Great sports programs help youth connect to school, adult mentors and each other.  Through sports, youth run and play and prepare for a lifetime of physical activity.  Sports can teach important life lessons and can also be a powerful vehicle to engage youth who struggle in traditional classroom settings.

Using the Quality Self-Assessment Tool for Girls' Sports Programs (link to Tool for Girls') as a guide, these webinars help evaluate specific aspects of programming that ensure girls have a positive and meaningful experience.  Participants will create an action plan for either creating a new girls sports program or strengthening an already existing program.  Participants can then choose to be part of a smaller cohort and receive further support in implementing their action plan.

Team-Up for Girls Program Creation

Research shows that sports have special benefits for girls. Girls who play sports learn how to lead with confidence, care for their bodies and steer clear of drugs and teen pregnancy. Finally, playing sports gets girls active, combating obesity and diabetes.  Despite all of these positive benefits, girls in low-income communities all over California participate in sports and physical activity at rates far lower than their male counterparts. And, statistics show that many girls who do play sports drop out around age twelve, just as they are facing puberty and increased peer pressure.

That’s why Team-Up for Youth has launched Team-Up for Girls.

This webinar is the beginning of a season-long consulting process that prepares after school programs to implement and deliver high quality girls' sports programs.  We will help you start a girls' sports program from scratch, provide you a sports curriculum, an implementation guide and on-going assistance and support as the season unfolds.

Thursday, July 8   1:00-3pm
Friday, July 30       10:00-12:00pm

I didn't realize what an in-depth role a coach has and I learned so much information that I will take back immediately.
